About ME

Growing up on the Bras d'Or lakes in Cape Breton, I have always had an appreciation for beautiful skies and scenery and had spent many hours enjoying art in its many forms. So to those closest to me, it is no surprise that this is where all my paths have lead me.

Professionally I found myself in the veterinary industry for the entirety of my adulthood. However, my pastime and my release from the stresses of life has always included creating; from painting and drawing to DIYs and landscaping. Creating for me, is an excitement, relaxation and an escape. A seemingly necessary part of life.

Through my teens focusing on drawing landscapes and portraits in graphite and charcoal, helped me develop an appreciation for lighting and subtle details. â€‹Although never professionally trained in any significant capacity, while completing a science degree at Dalhousie I did enjoy recreational courses through the Nova Scotia College of Art & Design as a special interest. This allowed me to gain insight on technique and directional lighting, specifically while using drawing mediums. Today my skill and technique grow through experience, exploration and learning from other artists within the community.

My journey has now found me branching into acrylic painting, which has been highly influenced by my little girl’s love of art and all things colorful. I tend to find inspiration in nature and often work from my own photos of favorite forest scenes and seascapes. In 2024 I began taking on the odd commissioned painting, but in late 2025 I decided to commit more effort into sharing my works and seek opportunity through my art. In 2026, from my small home-studio, Open Gable Studio became official.

I am looking forward to the journey as an artist and to the new experiences that it may bring.
